Equipment

  • Large Skillet For browning the ground beef and cooking the vegetable mixture.
  • Large Pot To boil the russet potatoes for mashing.
  • Mixing Bowl For mashing and mixing the potatoes.
  • Hand Mixer or Potato Masher To achieve creamy mashed potatoes.
  • 13 X 9 Baking Dish To assemble and bake the Shepherd's Pie.
  • Spatula or Large Spoon For spreading the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture.
  • knife and cutting board If using fresh vegetables, for chopping the onion, celery and bell peppers.
  • Colander To drain boiled potatoes.
  • oven mitts To safely remove the baking dish from the oven.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 Cups Chopped Onion, celery and bell pepper mix
  • 12 oz peas and carrots mix can use can or frozen
  • 15 ounce corn can use can or frozen
  • cup worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 5 llbs russet potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½-1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick butter

Instructions
 

  • Brown ground meat with onion mixture, Tony's, 1 tbsp black pepper and garlic.
  • Drain meat and add peas and carrots, corn, worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Cook on medium heat 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mash boiled potatoes and butter using a hand mixer.
  • Add ½ cup milk, 1 tbsp black pepper, parmesan cheese and the salt to the potatoes and mix to combine. Add more milk to taste to make potatoes creamy.
  • In a well greased 13 X 9 baking dish, pour ground meat mixture in the bottom of the dish.
  • Top with mashed potatoes.
  • Top potatoes with cheddar cheese.
  • Bake at 350° until cheese is melted and slightly browned.
